Adam Covati announced that he’s joining The Argyle Company last night on his blog. He’s wrapping up some loose ends with his current (and my former) employer Bronto and will be full-time in early February. Adam will be a partner in our business and will mastermind the development and launch of our first product – Argyle Social.
I first met Adam at a career fair at Bronto in 2007. I recall feeling very sick that day – to the point that I had to medicate just to make it through the event. As the event started winding down, I started to feel REALLY BAD. As I hazily gathered my stuff so I could go home, throw up, and pass out, Adam tracked me down to introduce himself. My stream of consciousness followed:
- Thought #1: “Bllaaaahhhhrrrgggh! I just want to go home and go to bed.”
- Thought #2 – 30 seconds later – “He talks fast and obviously isn’t from around here.”
- Thought #3 – 30 seconds after that – “Holy crap. We gotta get this guy.”
So Bronto hired Adam shortly thereafter and it didn’t take long for everyone in the organization to realize that he’s the real deal when it comes to products, markets, customers, etc. While at Bronto, he helped reposition the company/product for online retailers, led several successful product releases, conceived countless new features, and became a real mover/shaker on the email and social media marketing scenes.
Technically speaking, Adam took the “job” I vacated when I left to attend business school at UNC Kenan-Flagler. In reality, he took my title and desk…but did the job way better than I ever did it. After reflecting on Adam’s many talents and many contributions at Bronto, I think my most significant accomplishment as Bronto’s product manager was not barfing on him that night at the career fair.
Fast forward. We kept in touch. We independently incubated the same ideas for a while. We started getting together this summer. Yada yada yada. Here we are.
I couldn’t be more excited to team up with Adam and can’t wait for what comes next at Argyle.
